Laccases / Arylalcohol oxidases / Unspecific peroxygenases

Objective

Laccases are well-known biocatalysts for the oxidation of phenolic compounds and are considered to be some of the most promising enzymes for future industrial applications. Although widely distributed in nature, only fungal laccases are applied in biotechnological processes so far.

Within this project eight bacterial laccases were investigated. For homomolecular coupling reactions gallic acid and its derivatives were selected in a manner that dimerization by C-C and C-O coupling can occur, resulting in formation of ellagic acid.
